The Detroit Lions may have lost a key piece of their offense for the season due to a training camp injury

Entering his third season in the NFL after seeing a rise in production from Year 1 to Year 2, tight end Eric Ebron may have been ready to breakout this year. Unfortunately, he may not get the chance.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report Ebron’s injury.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport followed that up with what the team fears Ebron’s injury is.

According to Lions insider Tim Twentyman, Ebron sat out practice yesterday and returned today to participate in a mock game that was at Ford Field. Twentyman also reported that Ebron was carted off the field and was not putting any pressure on his right leg.

Ebron doesn’t seem too fazed and tweeted this out a short while after he was carted off.

Last season, Ebron was targeted 20 more times than his rookie season and caught 22 more passes, finishing the season with 537 yards and five touchdowns. After Calvin Johnson’s retirement, Ebron could have had a bigger role in the team’s offense this season.

But after today’s injury in camp, if it does turn out to be an Achilles, it looks like he will be out for the season.

Matthew Stafford is used to not having all of his weapons healthy, so it looks like this year won’t be anything new. That doesn’t make it any less devastating, for the Lions but mostly for Ebron.
