Even more so than in years previously, the parity in Olympics men’s basketball right now is absolutely incredible. There is so much international talent playing right now that USA Basketball can’t even think about just showing up and winning a medal, much less a gold medal. Two prime examples of why that’s the case will take the floor against one another in a preliminary round matchup on Saturday with Venezuela vs Serbia.

Serbia most certainly has the most NBA talent between the two teams as they could be a legitimate dark horse in the Olympics. Not only do they have talent like Nikola Jokic and Bogdan Bogdanovic, but even players like Milos Tedosic could have a big impact in this competition in Rio. It really comes down to if this group is clicking or not, but the potential for greatness is there.

On the other bench, the Venezuela team doesn’t have the same level of talent—but they do have a team that has played with cohesion in every international competition that we’ve seen and has some potential breakout players in their own right with guys like captain Jose Vargas.
