For the past few summer games, to say that Olympics women’s basketball hasn’t been much of a fair fight would be an understatement. USA Basketball has dominated the sport at the Summer Olympics for quite some time. However, that doesn’t mean that an upset couldn’t be brewing and that there aren’t three podium positions and medals to be playing for. Two such teams that could be in contention for a medal will face off to start the preliminary round on Saturday with Turkey vs France.

France hasn’t had the best of run-ups leading to the 2016 Rio Olympics considering that one of their stars in Celine Dumerc suffered a sprained ankle and was ruled out for the games on the Wednesday before the start of the Olympics. However, center and now captain Isabelle Yacoubou could still lead a talented team to a medal in Rio.

As for Turkey, they’ve been on the fringes of European competitions in recent years, seemingly always ending up in either second or third in major tournaments. If they can get rolling behind veteran center and captain Nevriye Yilmaz, though, they could make some noise.

This game will be broadcast on the special Olympics Basketball Channel. Have no fear, though, as the live stream will be up on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app by logging in with a cable or satellite subscription.
