USA Women’s Basketball is undoubtedly the favorites coming into Rio for the 2016 Olympics to win the gold medal. They’ve been dominant in international competitions for some time now, but the rest of the world is taking strides toward catching them. One team that could indeed be nipping on their heels will take the floor on Saturday in preliminary round action with Brazil vs Australia.

Australia is looked at by many people around Olympics women’s basketball as the biggest competition for the United States. They won the bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and finished third at the 2014 FIBA World Championships as well. However, they have the size and talent to beat or play with anyone in the competition in Rio and will need big center and captain Marianna Tolo to lead the way for them.

The Aussie women will be taking on the host nation of Brazil in this first matchup and Brazil also have a medal in mind as they could theoretically compete for the bronze. Ranked No. 7 in the world by FIBA, the Brazilian women will need a big performance from their captain Iziane Castro if they want to start off the Olympics with a win.

This game will be live streamed on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app at its tip-off time, but won’t hit TV until later when it will air on USA Network.
