Ray Allen has not played in the NBA since 2014, but that could all change if the right team gives him a call.

Ray Allen was one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, setting the league record for most three-pointers in an NBA career. He last laced up his shoes in 2014 as a member of the Miami Heat, appearing in 73 games for the Eastern Conference champions. The Heat lost in the NBA Finals that year to the San Antonio Spurs, and it was supposed to be the final hurrah for Allen.

However, Allen may not be done, and has kept himself in shape since retiring from the NBA. Recently, Allen said he spoke with the Boston Celtics about a possible return, going back to the team he won an NBA title for in 2008. Aside from the Celtics, the Spurs, Knicks, and Clippers may also be in play, and all those teams are expected to be playoff teams during the 2016-17 season.

Allen’s return may seem far-fetched, but he feels it could actually happen.

Speaking with the Hartford Courant at his basketball camp, Allen said he is dead serious about a return, if the right team came calling.

“My decision is predicated on what is available,” he said. “I said that I was interested because I never retired for a reason. I’ve been watching, seeing what teams have been doing and I’ve been waiting to see if the opportunity presented itself where I think I could fit.”

At 41-years old, it remains to be seen what he could actually contribute to a team. Every team in the NBA could use a knock-down shooter, and if Allen can still move around a bit, he could latch on to a contender.
