ESPN’s Marc Stein stumbled across a pair of NBA jerseys in Brazil while covering the Olympics. The results were hysterical, as Brazil doesn’t know the NBA.

While in Rio de Janeiro covering the United States’ Men’s Basketball team for ESPN, reporter Marc Stein came across a pair of odd looking NBA jerseys in Brazil. Though Brazil has notable NBA players like Anderson Varejao, Tiago Splitter, and Nene, the South American country doesn’t seem to have a strong grasp of what’s acceptable in terms of an NBA jersey.
Here in Brazil they seem to be under the impression that the Nets and Trail Blazers have merged ... pic.twitter.com/TMOV0Rcrra

The first jersey Stein encountered was a terrible chemistry nightmare. Apparently Brazil thinks that the Portland Trail Blazers and the Brooklyn Nets are the same team. They do play on different sides of the United States and the only thing they have in common the last few years was center Mason Plumlee. Was that No. 5 jersey on display a Plumlee thread? Sadly no, as Plumlee wears No. 24 for the Trail Blazers.
And I don't even know where to start with this Yankee-pinstriped "Celtics" jersey I'm gonna buy for @billsimmons ... pic.twitter.com/wQSoCvQzr8

The next jersey Stein came across was especially cringeworthy for folks both in Boston and New York. Who thought New York Yankees pinstripes would look great on a Boston Celtics jersey? Somebody that clearly doesn’t understand that Boston and New York teams absolutely hate each other on the Eastern Seaboard.
Stein obviously included his former ESPN colleague and Boston sports enthusiast in HBO’s Bill Simmons. A Larry Bird jersey in pinstripes has to be the worst thing a Bostonian could ever lay their eyes upon.
Brazil may have a few marquee big men in the NBA today, but the soccer crazy South American nation and 2016 Summer Olympics host country has a long way to go to understand the nuances in the National Basketball Association.
