Morning session

Men’s lightweight (60kg)

  • (NED) Enrico La Cruz def. Lai Chu-En (TPE) via scores of 29-28, 30-27 and 28-29.

Good, competitive fight. Clear winner was La Cruz, so the judges got it right. He will now move on to face Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu of Mongolia.

  •  (RUS) Adlan Abdurashidov def. Thadius Katua (PNG) via scores of 29-28×2 and 30-27.

Abdurashidov looked polished and technically sound – he was just the better fighter in this one.

  • (ALG) Reda Benbaziz def. Mahmoud Abdelaal (EGY) via scores of 29-28×3.

Exciting fight. Both guys scored a knockdown.

Men’s welterweight (69kg)

  • (KEN) Rayton Okwiri def. Andrey Zamkovoy (RUS) via scores of 29-28×2 and 28-29.

Upset of the day. Zamkovoy is a former bronze medalist.

  • (MGL) Byambyn Tüvshinbat def. Alberto Palmetta (ARG) via scores of 30-27×2 and 29-28.

Impressive performance by Byambyn.

  • (IRL) Steven Donnelly def. Zohir Kedache (ALG) via scores of 29-28, 30-26 and 30-27.

One sided fight here. Donnelly was dominant.

  • (LTU) Eimantas Stanionis def. Liu Wei (CHN) via scores of 30-27×3.

This fight was a lot more competitive than what the score cards indicate, however, Stanionis was the clear winner.

Men’s light heavyweight (81kg)

  • (ECU) Carlos Andres Mina def. Serge Michel (GER) via scores of 29-28×3.

Fun, entertaining fight. Mina pulled off the win in the closing minutes.

  • (GBR) Joshua Buatsi def. Kennedy Katende (UGA) via TKO -Round 3

First stoppage we’ve seen in this years olympics. Buatsi is going to be a monster of a pro.

  • (VEN) Albert Ramirez def. Petr Khamukov (RUS) via scores of 28-28 and 29-28×2.

This fight was a little odd. Both fighters have completely different styles. Close fight – could have gone either way.

Evening session:

Men’s lightweight (60kg)

  • (FRA) Sofiane  Oumiha def. Teofimo Lopez (HON) via scores of 30-27×3.

Close fight. Both of these guys have pro potential.

  • (THA) Amnat Ruenroeng def. Ignacio Perrin (ARG) via scores of 30-27×2 and 29-28.

Not a very good fight. Pretty sloppy by both guys.

  • (IRL) David Joyce def. Andrique Allisop (SEY) via scores of 30-27×2 and 29-28.

Joyce looked good. He will move on to face Albert Selimov.

Men’s welterweight (69kg)

  • (UZB) Shakhram Giyasov def. Youba Sissokho Ndiaye (ESP) via scores of 30-27×3.

Good performance by Giyasov. Youba tried, but it wasn’t enough.

Clear cut victory for Margaryan.

  • (FRA) Souleymane Cissokho def. Balazs Bacskai (HUN) via scores of 30-27×3.

Cissokho looked really smooth. He showed a lot of potential for a possible pro career.

  • (THA) Saylom Ardee def. Pavel Kastramin (BLR) via scores of 28-29 and 29-28×2.

Third Olympics for Ardee, but he barely got past his first bout.

Men’s light heavyweight (81kg)

  • (NED) Peter Müllenberg def. Ehsan Rouzbahani (IRI) via scores of 29-28×3.

I didn’t agree with this decision, but i’m not a judge.

  • (AZE) Teymur Mammadov def. Denys Solonenko (UKR) via scores of 29-28×3.

Mammadov used his height advantage to get the win.

  • (BLR) Mikhail Dauhaliavets def. Valentino Manfredonia (ITA) via scores of 28-28, 29-28 and 30-27.

My favorite fight so far. The decision could have gone either way.
