Olympics Men’s Basketball: Nigeria vs Argentina
The last team to win a gold medal in Olympics men’s basketball that wasn’t Team USA was Argentina. Though the golden age of Argentinian basketball may have passed, there’s no question that they’re still capable of making noise in any competition, Rio included. They’ll get the opportunity to start making that kind of noise on Sunday night as they take on a talented and tough Nigeria team in preliminary round action.

Argentina obviously boasts many of the stars that basketball fans will be familiar with like Manu Ginobili, Luis Scola, Andres Nocioni, and many others. Their core definitely isn’t made up of youngsters at this point in time, but they do have years of playing together to benefit them from a chemistry sense and they’ll look to use that savvy to help guide them.
Nigeria doesn’t have near the same name-recognition as their opponents on Sunday night, but players like Michael Gbinije and Ben Uzoh should have at least a puncher’s chance at knocking down Argentina in this matchup and the trying to keep them down to prove they belong.
This contest between Nigeria and Argentina will close out the Day 2 slate of Olympics men’s basketball and will be broadcast on the Olympics Basketball Channel. Moreover, the live stream for the game will be broadcast on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
