Two sides that have aspirations of potentially winning medals meet on Sunday August 7th. In a tough Group C that has been blown wide open by Mexico’s draw with Germany on Thursday, both these sides will be in strong contention for one of the top two qualifying placings.
Germany have a stacked squad (though not nearly as strong as it could be as is the strength in depth of their young players), including Sven and Lars Bender and Arsenal’s winger Serge Gnabry who was especially dangerous off the bench in their 2-2 draw with Mexico on Thursday.
South Korea, meanwhile, will be high on confidence after an 8-0 thrashing of Fiji, and with Tottenham star Son Heung-Min headlining their squad, there is certainly quality within the side to cause problems. As the reigning bronze medalists from London 2012, Korea do have a reputation for success in the Olympics and will be hoping to rely on such experience this time around.
Alongside defending champions Mexico, only two can qualify from the group, and with Germany sitting on only a point, a loss here could well end their hopes of qualification. It is set to be a tight and exciting game, and will certainly be worth watching on Sunda afternoon.
