Are Jimmy Butler and Rajon Rondo trying to coax Stephen Jackson out of NBA retirement and to the Bulls?

When the Golden State Warriors landed Kevin Durant in free agency, it seemed another trip to the NBA Finals was more than likely. With a chance to win a ring, came retired players such as Jermaine O’Neal and Stephen Jackson looking to latch on in Golden State.

Though, the Golden State Warriors immediately shut down hopes of Stephen Jackson’s chance of joining the Warriors by saying that he never even got a training camp invite.

Now Jackson appears to be interested in joining another ball club and the feeling seems to be mutual this time, at least among two of its top two players.

According to Raul Barrigon of Hoops Hype, Stephen Jackson has said that both Jimmy Butler and Rajon Rondo have tried to recruit him to the Bulls.

Jackson said with regards to Butler and Rondo trying to recruit him that, “Well, actually not a lot of people know that Jimmy has been calling me. We’ve been talking for like three months now. Even [Rajon] Rondo has been calling me, they really want me on the Bulls team.”

Jackson who is now 38 has not competed in the NBA in almost three years. If the Bulls do actually decide to give him a training camp invite unlike the Warriors, he may have a chance to make the final roster as the guards behind Buter, Rondo and Dwyane Wade are thin.

Though playing time for Jackson will still be an uphill battle as Butler, Rondo and Wade are all expected to play over 30 minutes per game.
