Next: Best QB/Head Coach Combos in NFL History
Another day in the crazy world of the NFL Preseason is in the books, and there sure were a couple of fireworks on Monday. While the Denver Broncos name two quarterbacks their starter, a former starter jaws with general manager John Elway. The Eagles lost a key piece for the next few weeks, and the Chargers still have no idea what will happen with Joey Bosa.
Over in Denver, Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak named both Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian his starting quarterback, which just is not possible. Naming both men co-starters does nothing to help the team, who is looking for a leader to replace Peyton Manning. Maybe Kubiak will be inserting an offense no one has seen before. When all is said and done, expect Sanchez to be under center on September 8.
Meanwhile, former Broncos starting quarterback Brock Osweiler continues to have to field questions about his old team. Broncos general manager John Elway does not understand why Osweiler was “bent out of shape” when he was benched in favor of Manning. Well, John, perhaps the young signal-caller likes to play and not sit on the bench.
Staying in the AFC West, the San Diego Chargers still do not have Joey Bosa at camp, and his mother recently said she wishes they would have “pulled an Eli Manning.” For those who do not remember, Manning forced a trade to the Giants after the Chargers selected him first overall in the 2004 NFL Draft.
Some injury news out of Philadelphia, as the Eagles are expected to be without star wide receiver Jordan Matthews for at least a few weeks. Coach Doug Pederson said Matthews will be out with knee soreness, which does not sound good considering the amount of time he is supposed to miss.
The Miami Dolphins will finally get Dion Jordan back, as the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 Draft has been cleared from his suspension. Jordan missed all of last season after violating the league’s PED policy, and has been suspended three times already in his short NFL career.
Finally, condolences go out to the families of University of Arizona offensive lineman Zach Hemmila, and former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive line coach George Yarno. Hemmila passed away in his sleep Sunday night at only 22-years old, which is way too young. Yarno waged a courageous three-year fight with stomach cancer, but his fight came to an end on Monday.
