On Monday, the men went for the gold in the 10m Synchronized Platform Final. As expected the Chinese tandem of Chen Aisen and Lin Yue took home the gold, winning soundly with a score of 496.98. The duo were heavy favorites heading into the event, and easily beat the rest of the field, setting an Olympic record in the process.
Tuesday it will be the womens’ chance to take the platform, as they compete in their 10m Synchronized Platform Final. As with any synchronized event, there were no preliminaries, and the medals will be up for grabs on Tuesday. Just like with the men, the Chinese women are expected to walk away with the gold.
China has won every Olympic and world championship title in the women’s synchronized platform event since its inception in 2000, and Chen Ruolin is one gold medal away from the most Olympic diving gold medals by an individual. She and partner Liu Huixia will likely win the event. Ruolin won the gold in the 2012 London Games, but with Wang Hao.
China has dominated the diving competition so far during the 2016 Rio Olympics, and appear slated to add another gold to their total on Tuesday. Canada has a nice duo in Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion, which is really the only competition China has in the event.
