During the 2012 London Olympics, Kim Jae-Bum of South Korea took home the gold medal in the men’s 81 kg event. It was redemption for Jae-Bum, who took the silver during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Germany’s Ole Bischof won the silver in London.

The men’s event will get started when Italy’s Matteo Marconcini takes on Kodo Nakano of the Phillipenes to see who earns the right to fight Joachim Bottieau of Belgium.

The 63 kg group for the women is considered the half-middleweight, and the gold was won by Urska Zolnir of Slovakia in 2012. In addition to winning gold in London, Zolnir won the bronze in this event at the 2004 Athens Olympics, making her the most decorated judoka in Slovakian history.

Judo will continue on Wednesday, when the men’s 90 kg group battles it out for the gold. In women’s action, the 70 kg fighters will try to earn their medals.
