France and New Zealand are tied going into the last game of the group stage. Both are 1-1 in these 2016 Rio Olympic games. They will be playing for second place in group G behind a dominant American team. The top two teams from each group will move on as well as the two third placed teams with the best record.

New Zealand bounced back from their opening loss to the USA by defeating Columbia on Saturday 1-0. The New Zealand team is playing in their third Olympic games, and did make it to the quarterfinals in 2012. They will be looking to use their skilled players such as captain Abby Erceg to move passed the French team.

France is also coming off a loss to the Americans this past Saturday. The French team gave the U.S. their toughest test so far in these Olympic games. They also dominated Columbia 4-0 in the opening game of the group stage. They are the No. 2-ranked team in the tournament, and they plan to show that against New Zealand. They will be looking to improve upon a fourth place finish at the 2012 summer Olympic games, but must first qualify for the quarterfinals.
