Rio Olympics Medal Count 2016: Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky win gold

Looking at the Rio Olympics medal count after Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky won gold for the United States on Day 4

It’s been a furious start to the 2016 Rio Olympics with rivalries, big events, and huge moments already having taken place and it’s only in Day 4. However, two huge moments for the United States happened consecutively on the night of Day 4 from Rio 2016 as Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky won gold medals for the United States in consecutive events.

With Ledecky and Phelps getting the big wins in the Women’s 200m Freestyle and Men’s 200m Butterfly, respectively, the United States is now tied again for the lead in gold medals with China.

As per usual in the Summer Olympics, it looks like it’ll be China and the United States vying for the win in gold medals. However, the United States is getting out to a big lead in regards to overall medals.

The United States is already up seven medals on China overall and could really pull away in the overall medal count early.
