Next: Every NFL Team's Best Draft Pick Of All-Time
The NFL Preseason is inching closer to the first games, and for some teams, it cannot come soon enough. The New England Patriots lost a key piece on Tuesday, as Rob Ninkovich tore his tricep. The defensive end is expected to miss four to six weeks, and now the Patriots are even more thin at the position. The team traded star end Chandler Jones this past off-season.
Staying in New England camp, star wide receiever Julian Edelman finally returned to practice on Tuesday, but it was short lived. Edelman injured his leg, had to leave practice, and is now listed as day-to-day. The injury does not appear to be too serious, but still, with Tom Brady missing the first four games due to suspension, the Pats cannot afford another loss on offense.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed offensive lineman Lane Johnson to a five-year extension in January, but on Tuesday, he got caught again for PED use. Johnson was suspended for four games in 2014 for PED use, and this time, he will be hit for 10 games. He is so important to what they want to do on offense, and now quarterback Sam Bradford will have to deal with a weakened offensive line.
The quarterback situation in Denver got a little clearer on Tuesday, as head coach Gary Kubiak announced that Mark Sanchez will start the Broncos preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. Sanchez was the favorite to start for Denver coming into training camp, but Trevor Siemian appears as a co-QB1 on the Broncos depth chart.
In other quarterback news, it appears that Case Keenum will be getting the start for the Los Angeles Rams when they open up their preseason schedule on Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys. When the Rams released their depth chart on Monday, Keenum was ahead of first overall selection Jared Goff in the pecking order. The Rams sold the farm to get Goff with the first overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, but he will be on the bench when the first team takes the field in Week 1. Keenum is obviously just holding the position until Goff is ready to play.
