Team USA had a dominating performance in the first day of the women’s Olympics water polo preliminary tournament on Tuesday as the Team USA women came out 11-4 over Spain. The Team USA women are defending their gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics, where they met Spain in the gold medal match. Their rout of Spain is a great start to the tournament for Team USA. The USA women started out with a 7-2 lead after the first two quarters, and then there was no looking back after that as they finished the game 11-4. Team USA takes on China on Thursday at 10:40am.
Around the pool on Day 1, Italy took down Brazil 9-3, Australia routed Russia 14-4, and Hungary beat China 13-11.
