Olympics Men’s Basketball: France vs Venezuela
Of all of the teams in the 2016 Rio Olympics men’s basketball competition, France is surely one of the best. Unfortunately for the French, though, they’ve joined Spain in being one of the early disappointments. Even still, France comes into Day 7 in a nice position to advance. To remain in that position, though, the French would need a big win over Venezuela on Friday night.
Tony Parker, despite no longer being a spring chicken, has been fantastic at Rio 2016. The point guard hasn’t lost a single step and has been one of the best players at the Games when at his best. However, the issue has been consistency around and even from Parker. Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum, Boris Diaw, and others haven’t shown any form of stabilization on the floor for France. Subsequently, the French exist in this space in Rio as one of the most talented teams, but also a team underperforming. Though Venezuela hasn’t been great, France still would like to be better on Friday.
As for Venezuela, they’ll be looking for another solid showing after picking up their first win in Rio. Granted, they beat a China team that’s been majorly ailing. However, momentum is important in Olympics men’s basketball and they have a little bit of it now. All they have to do now is capitalize against the inconsistent France team.
