Robert Griffin III made his first preseason start with the Browns and is already throwing bombs to former quarterback Terrelle Pryor

For better or worse, the Robert Griffin III era began for the Cleveland Browns on Friday night. The Browns began their 2016 NFL preseason by traveling to vaunted Lambeau Field. There, they met the Green Bay Packers to see what this team will look like after huge roster turnover. At the front of that, though, was undoubtedly RG3 at quarterback. Subsequently, all eyes were on the former Washington quarterback for the Browns.

It didn’t take long for Robert Griffin III to at least get some sort of sparks flying by connecting with an unlikely target: former Ohio State quarterback turned NFL receiver, Terrelle Pryor.

On the Browns’ first possession of the night against the Packers, Pryor was told to turn on the burners down the right sideline. He did just that and, as Griffin was given ample time to throw, he delivered a bomb Pryor’s way. The throw missed being perfect by a bit, but Pryor made a nice adjustment. For a former quarterback, he made a great play on the ball, going to the ground to cap off a gorgeous 49-yard passing play:

That’s truly a gorgeous throw and catch, no matter how unlikely the sources. Unfortunately, this is the Browns and taking the good with the bad is second nature. Subsequently, RG3 capped off the drive featuring this throw by getting picked off on the one-yard line.

Even with a bad end to his first preseason possession, there’s at least some hope in Cleveland with RG3. Who knows if it’s false hope or not—but it’s definitely something. Compared to recent years, that’s more than they’ve been able to say.
