Derrick Henry scores after plowing through Chargers defense (Video)
Derrick Henry made a strong first impression with the Tennessee Titans after plowing through the Chargers defense to score a preseason touchdown.
The Tennessee Titans knew precisely what they were getting when they drafted Heisman Trophy winning running back Derrick Henry from the University of Alabama. They knew they were getting a bruiser who could potentially be a feature back. Henry made the Titans look smart for drafting him and perhaps gave a glimpse at his future in his first preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. Henry plowed through several Chargers defenders to score his first preseason touchdown.

Crimson Tide fans are very familiar with that play. That’s the type of play that Henry made all last season as he rushed his way to a Heisman Trophy. Henry has never been a fast or quick back; he’s purely been about his power and his patience. Henry might not be fast, but once he gets going, he’s like an eighteen wheeler. Good luck stopping him.

The Titans drafted Henry in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft after he won the 2016 Heisman Trophy with 2,219 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns. In 2014, he narrowly missed out on a 1,000 rushing yards season, falling just 10 yards short. He did, however, score 11 touchdowns.
Henry might need to be better at avoiding contact to have sustained success in the NFL. Then again, if he can optimize his game, perhaps he can be the next Marshawn Lynch. They have similar running styles and Henry can be equally difficult to bring down if he gets a full head of steam going. He will, however, likely be limited to rushing as he has yet to prove that he can be an effective receiver out of the backfield. There still might be a place in the NFL for the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner.
