Looking at the Olympics golf results after Round 3 as Justin Rose of Great Britain took the overall lead

Olympics golf returning to the Games for Rio 2016 was a big storyline coming in. And luckily for fans of the sport, the men’s golf competition hasn’t disappointed in the slightest to this point. The first two rounds of action compelled as Australia’s Marcus Fraser held onto the lead. However, things took a favorable turn for a much more prominent golfer during Round 3 on Saturday.

Justin Rose of Great Britain had been hanging around the leaderboard and podium finishing position through the first two rounds, but made his move on Saturday. On a day when the course was allowing low scores, Rose put one up. The Englishman submitted a score of 6-under par for the day to move to 12-under for the competition. He now sits in the gold medal position.

Currently occupying the silver medal position is Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, just off of winning The Open Championship just less than a month ago. Stenson carded a score of 3-under in Round 3, but has been in the mix since Thursday’s Round 1. Also still in the mix is Fraser, who now sits in the bronze medal position after a disappointing 1-over par score in Round 3.

The low round for the day went to Team USA’s Rickie Fowler, who had struggled coming into Round 3. He finished the round with a miraculous 7-under par on his scorecard. However, his troubles in the first two rounds left him only tied for 14th place on the overall leaderboard. His American teammate in Bubba Watson is lurking, though, as he’s tied for fourth place. Watson submitted a 4-under par score in Round 3.

Suffice it to say that the Olympics golf competition for the men is heating up in a big way heading into Sunday’s final round. Will Justin Rose be able to hang on against Stenson and Fraser? Can someone like Fowler put together another incredible round to catch up? We’ll certainly see on Sunday in Rio.
