Here’s everything you need to know about watching the Olympics swimming finals on August 13th.
The 2016 Rio Olympics swimming schedule is coming to a close, and on Saturday, four of the last six events will end. The action kicks off at 9:03pm ET with the Women’s 50m freestyle, and will culminate with the Men’s 4x100m medley relay at 10:04pm ET. There are some huge names in the pool on Saturday, as countries try to win the final medals of this Olympics.
In the Women’s 50m freestyle, Ranomi Kromowdijojo of the Netherlands will look to defend her gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics. The sisters Campbell will also be in the field, as Australia Cate and Bronte look to become the first pair of siblings to share a podium in an individual event. Denmark’s Pernille Blume had the fastest time in the qualifying heat.
The next event of the night will be the Men’s 1500m freestyle, which is the longest freestyle event of the Olympics. 2012 London Olympics silver medalist Ryan Cochrane of Canada is back in the field, as he looks to add a gold to his silver. Two Americans will be looking to challenge Cochrane, with Connor Jaeger one of the favorites in the event. Italy’s Gregory Paltrineiri led the field in the qualifying heat.
The following event begins the first of two 4x100m medley relays, as the women hit the pool first. The United States will be looking to defend their gold medal from 2012, when they set the Olympic and World record in the event. 2012 star Missy Franklin will not be with the team in 2016, but the Americans have an incredibly talented foursome.
The final event will be the Men’s 4x100m medley relay, and it will be the last race of Michael Phelps’ Olympic career. Phelps ended his 2016 Olympics individual program on Friday night, finishing with a silver medal in the 100m butterfly. The Australian team is pretty loaded, and they should challenge the United States for the crown.
