4. They hired Barry Bonds

Outside of Alex Rodriguez, no other baseball player in the last 30 years had more talent as Barry Bonds. Bonds won an incredible seven Most Valuable Player awards, and is the currently all-time home run leader. Like Rodriguez, Bonds also is linked to steroids, and may never make it to the Baseball Hall of Fame, despite his incredible numbers.

Despite all of the drama around Bonds, the Miami Marlins signed him at the beginning of the season to be the team’s hitting coach. While some believed he would never be back in baseball, Bonds has resurfaced in Miami, and has become beloved by the Marlins fans.

What he has done with the young hitters in the Marlins organization has been incredible, and he is probably the one person who can actually give Rodriguez advice about his swing. In the history of baseball, no-one has put up numbers like Bonds, and being the baseball historian he is, Rodriguez would listed to what Bonds has to say.

For other teams, signing someone like Rodriguez may seem like way too tall of an order. Bringing in Rodriguez is also opening the floodgates for controversy, which may force teams to pass on him. The Marlins do not seem to mind the noise, and should take a flyer on their local hero.

Current All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon was suspended for PED use this season, and since he has returned, the fans have taken him back in. Rodriguez has made mistakes in the past, but the bottom line is he can still be productive if given at-bats. The fans won’t care about his past if he can put a bunch of baseball into the stands.
