Conor McGregor, Cristiano Ronaldo’s new best friend, told reporters that he signed a contract extension before Real Madrid did.

Conor McGregor doesn’t make friends with many people in mixed martial arts, but he and Cristiano Ronaldo are pretty tight. After Ronaldo helped Portugal win in Euro 2016, they met up while on holiday and even posed together in an Octagon.

While Ronaldo is set to miss the start of Real Madrid’s season due to injury, the two sides are currently making significant progress on a contract extension that could see the superstar stay at Madrid until the end of his career. However, according to AS, Conor McGregor may have revealed that extension before it was finalized.

At a promotional event, McGregor was asked whether he could one day overtake Ronaldo as the highest earning celebrity, but he said “That’ll be tough, he’s just signed a new contract with Real Madrid but we’ll see, maybe next year I’ll have him!”

That response definitely wasn’t typical of McGregor, given that he didn’t try to put himself above Ronaldo as the world’s biggest star, like he always does with Floyd Mayweather. He also has a propensity of correctly predicting things, which is probably why he let something like that slip ahead of time.

However, he displayed those attributes back when he couldn’t be beat in the UFC. Now that he’s been humbled by Nate Diaz, he is no longer the showman that he used to be, and even retreated to Iceland ahead of a rematch that he demanded. Perhaps he admires Ronaldo so much now because he’s never short on confidence, even in defeat. If McGregor wants to get the better of Diaz this time around, he has to be full of arrogance like he used to be.
