Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton will be out the rest of the season with a groin injury.
The Miami Marlins are surprisingly in the playoff race battling for a Wild Card spot. However, there chances at making playoff chase made a huge blow over the weekend. Slugger Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the disabled list with a strain groin and it was unclear how long he would be out.
Well, it looks like things have gone from bad to worse for the Marlins. According to MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said on Sunday, that Stanton will miss the rest of the season. This comes at a time when the Marlins are in a dead heat with the St. Louis Cardinals for the final Wild Card spot.

Stanton had strained his groin, which had caused him to land on the disabled list. This is not the first time Stanton’s season has ended early as a result of an injury. However, in those other seasons the Marlins were already out of the playoff race, which makes this news all the more disappointing. If there is a glimmer of hope for the Marlins, Frisaro also reported that there is still a slight chance he could return, but it’s remote.
Michael Hill says Stanton has a grade 3 strain. best case six weeks so remote chance he returns then. #Marlins

It’s a shame that his season had to end this way and Marlins fans should be hoping that remote possibility becomes a real one. When Stanton is in the lineup, it allows the rest of the hitters to see pitches they might not normally see. Taking one of the best bats in the MLB out of a lineup is never a good thing and now the Marlins will have to make their playoff push without him.
