Jerry Jones had just two words for TMZ when asked why he hasn’t pursued Johnny Manziel before this season: Dak Prescott.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had to be pleasantly surprised with how sharp fourth-round pick Dak Prescott looked in the Cowboys’ preseason loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. Prescott completed 10 of his 12 pass attempts for 139 yards and two touchdowns against the Rams in Los Angeles.
When TMZ Sports followed Jones and his family (accompanied with a police escort) to a stop after the game in Los Angeles, Jones was asked why he hasn’t pursued an opportunity to sign Johnny Manziel.
Jones kept his answer short, sweet and to the point on Manziel, along with some thoughts on the Rams organization being back in LA.
It felt very Jones-like (with a nice dose of sarcasm) for taking most of the credit on the Rams moving back to Los Angeles.
Jones was a big advocate in taking Manziel in the first round of the NFL draft a couple years ago, but the Cowboys smartly took Zack Martin from Notre Dame to further build the best offensive line in the NFL today.
Since the Cowboys took Martin over Manziel in the first round of the 2014 draft, Martin has represented the NFC in the Pro Bowl twice and Manziel struggled with the Cleveland Browns, got released and has probably smoked a bowl or two since then off the field.
Meanwhile in Dallas, the Cowboys took Prescott in this year’s draft with the 135th overall pick in the fourth round out of Mississippi State.

It’s just one preseason game, but Prescott looked like a good, young signal-caller behind Tony Romo on the quarterback depth chart. He was in control and hit each of his 12 throws. The two incompletions were a result of drops.
