Olympic equestrian jumping qualifier results: August 14
The challenging course in the equestrian jumping qualifier favored a forward, tactical approach. Kent Farrington is the only rider from the U.S. to have a clean round.
The equestrian jumping qualifier serves as an introduction to the types of obstacles and on-course questions the riders can expect for the team and individual show jumping contests. Team U.S.A.’s Kent Farrington on Voyeur were the team’s only pair to have a clear round with zero jumping and zero time faults.
The Brazilian home team goes forward with a perfect score, as does the German team. Tying for second, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Canada finished with four faults each. The U.S. is in a four-way tie for eighth place. Twenty-four individuals had clear rounds.
Today’s scores are in play toward qualifying for the individual jumping final; individuals will jump two more rounds with the cumulative score of all three determining eligibility to compete on the final day of individual competition – the top 35 riders compete on the last day.
