Some of the most compelling competitions to come out of Rio 2016 have been the Olympics fencing events. Numerous narratives have arisen throughout the Games, but also the action itself has been great. Now each nation will send their best team forward on Sunday, August 14. The Olympics fencing men’s epee team tournament will begin on Sunday morning. Then it all culminates with the medal matches to end the day.
In the only Table of 16 match of the day, it’ll be Brazil and Venezuela at 8 a.m. ET dueling to see who moves on. The winner advances to the quarterfinals and a matchup with France. Said quarterfinal clash with France will follow at 9:30 a.m. ET. Additionally, the other three quarterfinal matches in the men’s epee team event will all begin at the same time.
Hungary and South Korea clash in one of the other matches in what should be a great spectacle. You can say the same for Italy and Switzerland going up against one another as well. Also compelling will be the fourth and last of the quarterfinal matches with Russia vs Ukraine.
Next comes the matchups that will essentially serve as the consolation matches at 11 a.m. ET. However, fencing heats up after the with the two semifinal matches at 12:15 p.m. ET. After a couple more consolation matches at 1:30 p.m. ET, fans will be treated to the bronze medal match in Men’s epee team at 4 p.m. ET. This all builds to the main event in fencing, which of course is the gold medal match that begins at 5:30 p.m. ET.
