Olympics Women’s Basketball: Spain vs Canada
The preliminary round of Olympics women’s basketball comes to a close on Sunday from Rio 2016. The final three Group B matchups will take place and then it’s onward to the quarterfinals. However, there are still seeds left to be decided heading into the quarters out of Group B. One matchup will have tremendous implications in that regard as Spain vs Canada will be a game to determine who finishes second and who winds up third.
Spain has proven to be quite impressive throughout the preliminary round. They suffered only one loss in their four games coming into Sunday and that just happened to be at the hands of the mighty Team USA. Otherwise, two of their victories have been quite emphatic in addition to a tough opening win over Serbia. Now they’ll be up against another medal contender in Canada in what should be their biggest test outside of the United States in Group B.
Canada experience a similar road to this point in Group B as they too enter this game with a 3-1 record. Their lone loss of group play also came to Team USA in their last outing prior to Sunday. Moreover, they also got a scare from Serbia, but escaped with a narrow win. Kim Gaucher and company possess tremendous potential, though, and will look to realize that on Sunday.
