Team USA unleashed yet another mauling on Sunday, crushing China in their final Olympics women’s basketball preliminary round game

If Olympics women’s basketball from Rio 2016 is a sandbox, Team USA is most definitely the bully at this point. Meanwhile, the five teams that they played in the preliminary round in Group B all have Snack Packs in their lunch boxes. So as China took the floor against the United States on Sunday afternoon, they were all but doomed from the opening tip.

Anyone hoping that China could keep it close for any period of time had those hopes dashed almost immediately. Team USA came out of the gate firing on both ends of the floor and was relentless in their attack. Brittney Griner and Tina Charles were too big, too strong, and too athletic in the frontcourt for China to handle. Meanwhile, Maya Moore was doing it all in regards to distributing, rebounding, forcing turnovers, and even scoring a bit.

Team USA jumped out to a 32-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of action and never even considered touching the brake. They pushed that lead to 60-26 at halftime as they already were showing “mercy” with their bench unit. Granted, the China women’s team never showed an ounce of quit on Sunday.

However, sometimes you are just supremely outmatched and that was the case from the ball going in the air for the tip to the final buzzer—without a minute of doubt in between. That was how Team USA handled business against China, earning the 105-62 victory. They finished 5-0 in the Olympics women’s basketball preliminary round, winning Group B and moving on to the quarterfinals.
