Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic score minutes apart (Video)

Two quick goals by Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic indicate how quickly the players have adapted to Jose Mourinho’s style.

It’s never easy for anyone to follow in someone like Alex Ferguson’s footsteps, but after the untenable Louis van Gaal era, Jose Mourinho didn’t have to do much to make a positive mark on the team. And two goals in quick succession against Bournemouth are indicative of how quickly the Manchester United players have bought in to Mourinho’s system.

The first goal came from Wayne Rooney, who had a nightmare season last year, yet already looks like he’s moved past it:

While the second goal five minutes later came from star signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose distance strike raised the gap to 3-0:

Whenever someone with an ego as big as Zlatan Ibrahimovic joins the team, it can raise questions over chemistry, but credit Mourinho for finding a good fit for him. Having someone like him lead the line makes Rooney that much more productive at the number 10.

Meanwhile, since Ibrahimovic has joined the team, all he’s done is score big goals. In his first appearance during preseason, he scored a scissor kick goal five minutes in, while he also scored the winning goal in the Community Shield to give Mourinho his first trophy at Manchester. And in his Premier League debut, he hit an absolute screamer to put the game out of reach.

Bournemouth aren’t exactly world beaters, and they were expected to win this match no matter what, but Manchester United are playing with more confidence than ever. It must be said that they haven’t played this loose since they were managed by Alex Ferguson. If they can keep playing this well throughout the season, it’s clear that great things are ahead for Manchester United.
