1. Yasiel Puig

If there’s a top option available for the Miami Marlins, it should be Yasiel Puig. The once next great superstar for the Los Angeles Dodgers has floundered to the point of being relegated to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Still, the young star has talent and Don Mattingly knows him better than anyone else.

Now, the Dodgers can’t just up and trade Puig to the Marlins in a deal without placing him on waivers first, but there exists the possibility that the Marlins could land him another way. Puig’s standing with the organization is already on thin ice with his shenanigans and that could lead to the team just saying forget it and releasing him.

If they get impatient and decide to make that move in the next week or two, it would be the right time for the Marlins to strike and grab a player. The Cuban has the opportunity to be a favorite in the Miami market and he wouldn’t be far from home. There’s also the fact that he has openly worked toward improving his image.

His game is struggling, but he’s still young and has a chance to get better. Maybe going somewhere close to home with a familiar system in place could help him. This is the ideal replacement, but it’s a hard one for Miami to pull off right now during the season.
