You’ll be able to give EA and DICE’s new WWI shooter a go before Labor Day.
Seeing all the trailers, details and other hype that comes down the road for the next big thing in first-person shooters is one thing. Actually being able to put Battlefield 1 to the test for yourself … Well, that’s something else.
Happily, you’ll be able to do exactly that in just a few weeks. EA and DICE announced today that the Battlefield 1 open beta is set for August 31, and will be available on Xbox One, PC and PS4.
The press release accompanying the announcement revealed that the open beta will include two game modes — Rush and Conquest — set on the Sinai Desert map. More details:
"Playable with up to 64 players, this map includes a new controllable Armored Train behemoth, ridable horses and three new Elite Classes – Sentry, Flame Trooper and Tank Hunter."
In case you don’t want to wait that long for another taste of Battlefield 1, you can also tune in to Twitch on Tuesday, August 16 at 3 p.m. Eastern/noon Pacific to watch the Battlefield 1 Squads live stream. That will air direct from gamescom in Germany and feature two captains leading full teams of 32 players made up of YouTube personalities and Twitch streamers, similar to what EA did at E3 but without actors and musicians involved (we think).
Speaking of gamescom, there’s also a new trailer released especially for the show that you can see right here:
If that doesn’t get you psyched up to try it for yourself at the end of the month, I’m not sure what will. Battlefield 1 is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4 and PC worldwide on October 21.
