Chelsea came away with the win on Monday, and that was thanks to the efforts of Diego Costa
If there was one team in the Premier League that wanted to make a good impression during the opening weekend, it was Chelsea. This is a club that’s coming into this season with a lot to prove, especially after the fall from grace that they endured last season where they were the defending champions.
Well, on Monday, they really did their best to make a statement that they’re ready to climb back to the top of the Premier League mountain, or at least make a better effort at it than they did last season when they were laughed at throughout most of the campaign.
Chelsea were facing off with West Ham to not only open their season, but also to open the campaign of one Antonio Conte, who took the club over from Jose Mourinho who was canned after the debacle that was last season. They came away with the win, and it was thanks to this goal in the second half from none other than Diego Costa.

It really does go without saying that this was a win that Chelsea wanted to pick up. Last year they came into the season with all eyes on them for the right reasons, and this year they’re starting it out with everyone paying attention to them for all the wrong ones. People want to see whether or not this club can pick themselves up, and Monday was a good indicator that they might be able to under Conte.

Another good sign was that the other goal for Chelsea came from Eden Hazard, so it’s a really good look that two of the most popular stars on the team are carrying them through thus far.
It’s early, but things were looking better than last year for Chelsea on Monday.
