Olympics Men’s Basketball: Nigeria vs Brazil
There’s only one day remaining in the Olympics men’s basketball preliminary round, meaning only three games left to determine the teams advancing to the quarterfinals. On Monday, August 15, it’ll be the six teams in Group B finishing up group play and trying to advance or improve their position. Starting off the action will be Nigeria vs Brazil.
Brazil is coming off of the heels of their last game, which was a classic double-overtime affair against Argentina. They came out on the wrong end of that result, though. Frankly, they may have done that too many times in this competition. The host nation has won only one game up to this point and will need a win and a loss by Spain to have a hope of moving to the quarterfinals. So Marcelo Huertas, Nene, and Leandro Barbosa will have to deliver the goods and get the victory if they want to protect their proverbial home court in Rio.
On the other hand, Nigeria resides virtually in the same boat as their opponents. They aren’t out just yet, but are hanging on by a thread. It’ll take a win on Monday and a Croatia loss later in the day for them to have a chance to move on. This team has been quality at some times and atrocious at others, so they’ll be looking for the former scenario to play out come Monday.
