The USA Basketball team has won all of their games on the basketball court thus far, but their skills don’t translate to the volleyball court.
After five games at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, the US men’s basketball team is undefeated. To give themselves a break and have some fun before their Olympic season continues, the guys gave beach volleyball a run.
Draymond Green and Kevin Durant both checked out the women’s beach volleyball matches after their 100-97 victory over France. It seems they –and some of the other players– got inspired and decided to test their skills.
While it is important for the team to have fun and take their attention away from basketball, they definitely should not consider playing beach volleyball competitively any time soon.
Fans in Rio crowded around –as expected– to watch Team USA show what they can do in another sport. Thanks to them, here is 52 seconds of extremely average volleyball, via TMZ Sports.
So, let’s break this down a bit. In this clip, you can clearly see Klay Thompson, Paul George, DeAndre Jordan, Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry. Of course, Draymond Green and DeMarcus Cousins –who have been documenting their friendship on Snapchat– were there as well. There may be others, but it is hard to tell in the video.
There are some good volleys, a lot of miscommunication throughout the video. But, at the 26-second mark, Thompson makes one of the worst plays you will ever see in your life. He dove to the side, and hit it straight behind him, going right out of bounds. It had no chance of getting over the net.
Also, from a video like this, you would expect athletic NBA players that are 6-foot-5 and taller to be doing a little more jumping and spiking. Cousins had a chance to make a nice play at the net, but he couldn’t get his footing in the sand and missed the spike opportunity.

At the end of the day, this is all for fun and gives us a good laugh. But maybe between now and the next time these guys hit the beach volleyball court, they should work out some of the kinks in their game.
