During Bungie’s live stream at gamescom 2016, a bunch of news and details was revealed on the new expansion coming to Destiny, Rise of Iron.

With the hype that Destiny currently has because of the new expansion, Rise of Iron, coming in September, a good chunk of Bungie’s live stream from gamescom was devoted to the game. In the opening video that kicked off the stream, the developers revealed a video, talking about what exactly will be coming with the new expansion. There’s a lot to talk about, but the one facet that stands out the most is the introduction of private matches, which are a long time coming.

Before we get into that, let’s talk about what else was revealed about Rise of Iron. For example, the expansion will come with three new playable maps, a variety of new weapons to choose from, new armor that you can obtain, a new raid, familiar strikes that have been revamped, and amazing boss battles that you can tackle with groups.

Now let’s turn back to the big reveal, private matches. It’s truly unfortunate that we had to wait this long for private matches to finally be included in Destiny, but better late than never, right? With Bungie’s track record for creating multiple games with amazing private matches/custom games (the Halo franchise), it’s a no-brainer to have them now included in Destiny.

This not only changes the game, but it definitely enhances the whole experience. For the first time, guardians everywhere will be able to host their own private matches with their squad and play against others, which is great. This also opens up a huge opportunity to host online tournaments or even local tournaments, which makes Destiny a much more competitive game. The new Destiny expansion, Rise of Iron, is set to release on September 20, 2016.
