In a surprise announcement for the fans, EA announced at gamescom 2016 that an open multiplayer technical test for Titanfall 2 will be available this weekend.

During EA’s live stream at gamescom 2016, a lot of the focus was placed on FIFA 17, but there was a nice little tidbit that gamers are going to love. For those who were fans of Titanfall, a sequel is currently underway and it’s looking to improve on everything the first one offered. It’ll also be introducing a story mode, which is new to the series.

Although the game releases later this year, fans will be able to get an early glimpse of what the game will be like starting this weekend. From August 19 to August 21, we’ll be able to download the open technical test on PS4 and Xbox One. We’ll also be able to play the following weekend, from August 26 to August 28. For the first weekend, the technical test will include two playable maps and two playable modes.

The two playable modes will be Bounty Hunt and Pilots vs. Pilots.

In Bounty Hunt, the modes pits Pilots and their teammates against an opposing team and the Remnant Fleet. It’s a 5v5 game mode and you will earn bonuses by killing grunts and enemies. However, you must make sure that you deposit all your points at the bank between waves while staying alive.

In Pilots vs. Pilots, players take charge as the Pilot and will look to be the best one on the Frontier as they put their combat and mobility skills to the test. It’s a classic 8v8 mode.

The two playable maps will be Boomtown and Homestead.

Boomtown is a secret underground IMC facility where the latest in R&D is put to the test. Pilots can use the peaked roofs as cover from those below, but they’ll need to watch the tight lanes through the middle to avoid getting their Titans ambushed.

Homestead is a small plot of land that the IMC has claimed. It contains many rocky plateaus with a river running down the middle. Pilots are safe from Titans when they’re on the rocks, but they can go into the caves if need be.

These two modes will return for the second weekend and will be joined by a new map and mode.

The mode is called Amped Hardpoint. A 6v6 mode, it’s a new twist on the original mode, Hardpoint Domination. This time around, while defending the Hardpoint, you’ll be able to amp it and your team will score double the points.

The map is Forward Base Kodai. Militia forces have taken over an IMC substation and have set up a forward operating base. Pilots are safe from Titans in the hallways and chambers of the main building, but Titans can walk over the roof to get a better view.

Be sure to test out the open technical this weekend and the weekend after. Titanfall 2 will officially release on October 28, 2016, on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
