Canada is coming off of a 1-0 win over France in the quarterfinals of the women’s soccer tournament of these 2016 summer Olympic games. The Canadian team beat France with a lone goal scored by Sophie Schmidt in the second half. The goalkeeper for Canada, Stephanie Labbé was wonderful in this shutout, securing her team a spot in the semifinals. The Canadian team had their best Olympic finish in 2012, when they won the bronze medal after beating France. Now Canada will face Germany for the second time in these Olympic games. The first time, Canada beat Germany 2-1 in the group stage on August 9.

Germany won their quarterfinal matchup against China with a final score of 1-0 in regulation time. They are set to make their fourth semifinal appearance, after finishing in third place three Games in a row in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Following that, Germany failed to qualify in 2012, now they are back where they belong and are looking to make it to the gold medal match for the first time. They will be looking to correct the errors that led to the first loss against Canada on August 9, and pull off the win that they so badly want.  These two teams will face each other in the second match on Tuesday, following Brazil vs. Sweden.
