Olympics Women’s Basketball Quarterfinals: France vs Canada
Finally the quarterfinals of the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s basketball competition has arrived. The first three games will have already been played on before the finale of the night. That will feature what is sure to be a torrid affair between two definitive bronze medal contenders. It’ll be France vs Canada to end the Day 11 action.
Canada went 3-2 in the preliminary round playing in the loaded Group B, which is not an easy feat in the slightest. Kim Gaucher as the team’s captain has been fantastic for the Canadian team throughout the tournament to this point. However, forward Lizanne Murphy will be huge for Canada in this game. How she’s able to control the game on the wing will be vital to their success. If she’s unable to help spread the floor a bit for the guard in Gaucher, then the Canadian women will be on the path to a win. However, if it doesn’t happen, this could be the end of the line for Canada.
Perhaps the biggest reason why Canada could be in trouble is that this French team is highly talented. France also went 3-2 in the group stage to get to this point out of Group A. However, they’ll have at least one distinct advantage when it comes to Isabelle Yacoubou on the interior. If they’re able to take advantage of that, they should be able to secure a victory.
