Live stream info and how to watch Olympics women’s handball quarterfinals from Rio 2016 online
The drama is only getting started in Olympics women’s handball from Rio 2016. While the preliminary rounds were no surprise in terms of the eight teams that advanced, it’s now time for the quarterfinals. Winners on Tuesday, August 16 will have at least a shot at a medal while losers will pack their things and head out. How could there not be drama with that kind of narrative?
Brazil coming off of a strong group stage showing starts off Tuesday’s slate of games as the Group A winners. They’ll take on a Croatia squad that just narrowly eked into the quarterfinals. Even at this stage of the competition, this is a definite mismatch and a loss for the Brazilians would be a huge disappointment for the host nation.
Whichever team wins in Brazil vs Croatia will move on to face the winner of Spain vs France, which starts at 12:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday. France notched an impressive 4-1 record in the group stage, but Spain as quite comfortable at 3-2. This matchup could be roughly the 10,000th to come down to the wire, but it should be a classic regardless.
Kicking off the bottom half of the bracket is Sweden and Norway. Unlike their male counterparts, the Sweden women’s handball team looked incredible at times. Inconsistency spelled a 2-2-1 record in the preliminary round for them, though, and now they are “rewarded” with quarterfinals matchup with the defending gold medalists.
Women’s handball’s quarterfinals conclude on Tuesday with the undefeated Russia team facing Angola. The latter had trouble at times just to get out of Group A, so it might be best to just sit back and pray as they come up against a juggernaut Russia team in Rio at 7:30 p.m. ET.
