Rio Olympics, Gymnastics results: August 16
Recapping the final three individual gymnastics events at the 2016 Rio Olympics, including another gold for Simone Biles.
Simone Biles bounced back from a slip in the balance beam final to win gold in the women’s floor exercise in the final day of artistic gymnastics at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
A three-time world champion on the floor thanks to her unparalleled leaping ability, Biles delivered a flawless routine with a huge score of 15.966 that the rest of the field could not match. Even with the mistake on the beam, Biles’ four gold and a bronze is still one of the top performances ever from a gymnast at any individual Olympics.
Defending Olympic champion Aly Raisman of Team USA ended her strong competition with a silver on the floor, scoring a 15.500. Raisman closes out her career as one of the most decorated American gymnasts ever with six total medals, including three golds.
Great Britain’s Amy Tinkler won a surprise bronze with a score of 14.933, the second individual gymnastics medal in the nation’s history. Italy’s Vanessa Ferrari, the last gymnast to go, looked to be in line to pass TInkler before hopping on one of her final passes to score 14.766 in fourth.
Tuesday also featured the last two event finals in the men’s competition. Ukrainian star Oleg Verniaiev picked up his second medal of the Rio Games with a win in the finals of the men’s parallel bars. After qualifying with the highest score in the event, Verniaiev bumped his difficulty up to a massive 7.1 and stuck his dismount to finish with a score of 16.041.
Team USA’s Danell Leyva was in line for the gold for much of the competition with a score of 15.900. While parts of Leyva’s routine had better execution than Verniaiev’s. the American only had a difficulty mark of 6.9. European champion David Belyavskiy won bronze with a 15.783.
Top qualifier Fabian Hambuchen was first up in the finals of the men’s horizontal bar and posted his best score of the Games with a 15.766. That mark proved just good enough for Hambuchen to win his first Olympic gold after taking bronze in Beijing and silver in London on the apparatus.

Nile Wilson closed out an outstanding competition for Great Britain in bronze medal position with a mark of 15.466, the seventh gymnastics medal for the country in Rio. Team USA’s Sam Mikulak was bumped off the podium by Leyva, finishing just behind Wilson in fourth.
