DeAndre Jordan thinks Olympic gold is more special than NBA championship
By Andre Pruitt
DeAndre Jordan believes an Olympic gold holds more weight than an NBA championship.
The Los Angeles Clippers lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA playoffs last season. That concluded the fifth straight season that the trio of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan have failed to make it past the second round of the playoffs.
Jordan was later chosen as member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team. In Rio, with Team USA advancing to the final eight, Jordan is hoping to capture his first championship, whether Olympic or NBA.
Team USA have had a tougher time than expected in this Olympics, but even after three straight close calls, they are heavy favorites to take home gold.
With Team USA still the favorite and the gold medal in sight, Jordan made a bold claim about the importance of an Olympic gold.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein and Mark Schwarz, Jordan said, “I think they’re above NBA rings. I may get in trouble for saying that, but I believe that. I feel like this is more special. You’re not just playing teams in the U.S. You’re playing teams from all over the world. And this is even more special because there’s an NBA champion crowned every year, but this is every four years.”

Jordan holds a similar view on this issue to Team USA teammate Carmelo Anthony. There is another thing Jordan and Anthony have in common: neither player has an NBA ring. So it’ll be interesting to know whether both players would feel the same if they were able to capture that elusive NBA title.
