Metal Gear Survive is the first game from Konami since Hideo Kojima’s departure, and it looks very different compared to the company’s previous games.
Hideo Kojima delivered some incredible games for Konami over the years; the Metal Gear Solid franchise was one of the biggest standouts. Unfortunately, Kojima had a falling out with Konami that caused him to leave the company. Shortly after, he joined up with Sony and created his own company, Kojima Productions. He’s already working on a new game, Death Stranding, which we got a first look at during this year’s E3.
Despite Kojima no longer being involved, Konami seems committed to bringing Metal Gear Solid games to the fans. That’s very evident in the new trailer for their brand-new game, Metal Gear Survive. The trailer was first revealed at Gamescom 2016 and although it does look familiar, it’s also very different when you compare it to previous entries in the franchise.
Metal Gear Survive is a four-player co-op survival game that is still a part of the Metal Gear Solid universe, but it’s in an alternate universe. It continues right where Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes left off.
According to Konami European president Tomotada Tashiro, “Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience.”
It looks like the company is straying away from the single-player elements and is looking to encourage players to play together this time around. Regardless, fans haven’t received the trailer very well. The new trailer already has almost 30,000 dislikes on IGN’s YouTube video and if you read the comments, you’ll definitely have a good laugh.
Konami is still trying to make the series work, but fans will most likely never forgive them for what happened with Kojima. Let’s see if it works out.
Metal Gear Survive is set to release sometime in 2017 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
