Harry Potter GO isn’t a thing, but here’s what it might look like

The original rumor of Niantic doing a Pokemon Go-esque take on the Wizarding World turned out to be false, but hope springs eternal.

Remember when a developer working on Pokemon GO supposedly said that he’d love to do a similar augmented reality game for the world of Harry Potter next? Yeah, that was a hoax.

But it was a delicious, amazing hoax, the kind that Potterverse dreams are made of. That being the case, it didn’t take all that long for other hopeful fans to try keeping that dream alive by all means necessary.

Anyway, courtesy of Spinoff Online comes this fan-made “mock-up” of what Harry Potter GO might be like. If we could think of a better word than “magical,” we would, but it’s fitting here.

Big props to the use of the Marauder’s Map from what everyone knows is the best Harry Potter film. The concept of different collectible cards at “Magic-Stops” is also a solid one, considering that there wouldn’t be as much of a need to gather supplies as there is in Pokemon GO.

It seems … unlikely that Niantic and Nintendo would ever actually make a game like this, considering the gymnastics they may have to with regards to rights, and another studio might not be able to use the “GO” part of the title even if they had the wherewithal to create an augmented reality title.

Regardless, there’s clearly a fan base for an idea like this, one that would flock to a game if someone made it. What we’re saying is that if there’s someone out there with mad coding skills and some connections to raise money to make it happen, it probably wouldn’t be a horrible idea.
