Live stream info and how to watch the Olympics canoe sprint competition at Rio 2016 online on Wednesday, August 17
One of the most exciting events at the 2016 Rio Olympics that not enough people are probably watching is the canoe sprint events. In kayaks and canoes, you have some of the best outdoor sports athletes absolutely shredding it up and moving at break-neck speeds. Come Wednesday, there will be a bevy of Olympics canoe sprint events on display.
The day will start off with the Men’s Kayak Double 1000m competition. Max Rendschmidt & Marcus Gross of Germany look like the favorites in this competition heading into Wednesday’s preliminary heats. But we’ll find out early on if their paddling like it early and in the semifinal later in the day.
Up next will be the Men’s Canoe Single 200m, one of the most crowded fields in the Olympics canoe sprint. This competition has been wide open in recent world championships with nine different men medaling in the past three years. Subsequently, this could be anyone’s race. Both prelims and the semifinals will take place on Wednesday.
Men will stay in the water for the Kayak Double 200m where teams from Hungary, Serbia, and Russia could all seemingly have a shot at winning the gold. However, it’ll all come down to what they look like in the kayak come Wednesday with the prelims and semifinals.
The final event in the Olympics canoe sprint competition will be the Women’s Kayak Single 500m. Zhou Yu of China will be looking for redemption after missing a medal at the 2012 London Olympics by fractions of a second. However, New Zealand’s Lisa Carrington is the overall favorite and can put her talents on display in this event.
