The 2016 Rio Olympics diving competition continues on Wednesday, as the women head to the platform for the women’s 10m platform preliminary round.

The 2016 Rio Olympics diving competition continues on Wednesday, as the women take to the platform for the final women’s event of the Games. Divers will compete in the women’s 10m platform, and like all of the other diving events at this year’s Olympics, China is expected to take gold. Former star Chen Ruolin, the 2012 London Olympic gold medal winner, is not competing, as she passes the torch to younger Chinese divers.

For China, Ren Qian is the new star of the 10m platform, and she is the front-runner for the gold. Qian is only 15 years old, but she has been the best diver in this event for the past year. Fellow countrywoman Ci Yajie is also expected to medal, which would make for an incredible 2016 Olympics in diving for China.

Another big name to watch on Wednesday is Pandelela Rinong Pamg, who won the silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Rinong Pamg will be looking to get back to the podium, and is the only medalist in the competition from London. Silver medal winner Brittany Broben of Australia was injured while getting ready for Rio and will not participate.

Wednesday will feature preliminary action, as the divers get cut down to 18 who will move onto the semifinals on Thursday. From there, only 12 divers will head to the final, which will take place later in the day on Thursday.

Each diver will get five dives, with no limit of difficulty. The rules state that each diving group must be represented, as divers must perform a forward, reverse, twisting, inward, and backwards dive. Scores do not carry from round to round.
