Olympics Men’s Basketball Quarterfinals: Australia vs Lithuania
Everything about the Olympics men’s basketball competition up to now has been a thrill. From Team USA being tested three games in a row to buzzer-beaters to games with several overtimes, it’s all been in play. But now it’s time to begin the quarterfinals on Wednesday, August 17 and that only means the real insanity could be on the brink of beginning and that all starts with Australia vs Lithuania.
The only loss in the group stage for Australia came at the hands of the United States in an absolute war. Other than that, Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills, and the rest of this cohesive squad of Aussie men have been a force to be reckoned with. They offer experience, NBA-caliber talent, and much more throughout their roster. If they play like they did in the group stage in the quarterfinals, there aren’t many teams that can beat them.
However, Lithuania is another team that, when at their best, not many teams left in this tournament can beat. Obviously they have talented big men like Jonas Valanciunas and the young Domantas Sabonis. However, this is a team that works exceptionally well together from top to bottom on the roster and a team that’s hungry. The question with Lithuania always is, though, whether they play to their potential or not. That’ll again be a determining factor in this matchup on Wednesday.
