Olympics Men’s Basketball Quarterfinals: Spain vs France
There are many great matchups and there is plenty of great basketball that’s going to be played in the 2016 Rio Olympics men’s basketball quarterfinals. However, it’s hard not get excited about the Spain vs France matchup. These have long been two of the best, most veteran teams in the league and now they’ll be squaring off on Wednesday with a shot at a medal on the line.
Spain started off the Olympics looking like a bad version of themselves. They were obviously talented, but looked to be a bit apathetic and disinterested. Losing their first two games gave them a quick attitude adjustment (shoutout John Cena), though, and they’ve been dominant since. Sergio Rodriguez and Sergio Llull have been huge, as has Pau Gasol from the very start in the frontcourt. Now the key for this Spain team will be for those guys and bench guys like Ricky Rubio and Nikola Mirotic to keep playing with that fire coming up against France.
This French team is a bit worried about the health of Tony Parker as he sat out last game, which is huge for their chances. Despite him starting to get up there, Parker makes this machine run smoothly for France. However, they still have the likes of Nando de Colo, Nicolas Batum, Rudy Gobert, and more. Subsequently, this matchup with Spain should turn all the heads and put one team on a trajectory to the podium.
