A look at the results of the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s handball from Tuesday, August 16.

Women’s handball at the 2016 Rio Olympics saw the preliminary round come to an end on Sunday. Quarterfinals action would kick off on Tuesday with two games scheduled.

The first match-up saw Norway and Sweden battle. Norway entered from Group A, while Sweden advanced from Group B. The Norwegians were coming off a slim victory, as they defeated Romania 28-27 on Day 9 of the Games. Sweden lost to France in a Group B match-up on Day 9, 27-25.

Norway would defeat Sweden on Tuesday 33-20 in a blowout victory. They will advance to the semifinals on Day 13.

The other first round match-up had the Russian women face Angola. In a Group B contest on Day 9, Russia defeated Netherlands 38-34, so they had momentum coming into this one. Spain beat Angola 26-22 in a Group A match on Day 9 as well. Would the Angolans be able to come back on Tuesday?

The Russians would walk out on Tuesday night victorious. They defeated Angola 31-27 to move to the semifinals.

So both semifinals match-ups are set. Netherlands will take on France at 2:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 18. Norway and Russia will go head to head on the same day at 7:30 p.m. ET. The winners of each match will receive a spot in the finals at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 20. The losers will be in the bronze medal game at 10:30 a.m. ET on the 20th, too.

The final few days of women’s handball at the Olympics should be thrilling. One country will be able to walk out with the gold medal. Who will it be?
